I am running a dell xps 13 developer edition with basically the stock dell/ubuntu 12.04 install.
I have found that the e3231 will reliably correctly switch and be detected by the OS as a network interface if the dongle is sitting on a usb 2.0 hub plugged into the computer, but it does not reliably ...
