HUAWEI E5573
E5573s-320 (marketed by O2, Telefonica Germany), but without o2-branding

works out of the box:

It is cheap. But it doesn't support IPv6. So I would not recommend it.

Thanks for the report Thomas, and yes usb_modeswitch handles all Huawei dongles automagically
now since they match the 12d1:#linux udev rule.
A drawback is that we now don't get to know the initial vid:pid before switching, can you please tell us that?

The "dmesg" output gives the initial ID away:
Code:
[  141.727085] usb 1-4: New USB device found, idVendor=12d1, idProduct=1f01

I came across this since my dongle is not working as expected on Mint 18.1 on USB (works fine when used as WiFi Hotspot).

Code:
~ $ sudo usb_modeswitch -v 12d1 -p 1f01 -P 14db -W -J

Code:
 ~ $ lsusb
Bus 003 Device 013: ID 12d1:14db Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E353/E3131

From what I see I come to the conclusion that
Code:
12d1 14db
lets this working as a WiFi client, _not_ as a 2G/3G/4G modem.
Networkmanager shows this as WiFi but not as "mobile broadband".

So I checked
Code:
~ $ lsusb -v -s 003:013

Bus 003 Device 013: ID 12d1:14db Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E353/E3131

How can I get this to show up in Network Manager as "mobile broadband"?
Any thoughts?
