Hi, I am trying to set up my parents laptop with Mint 18 and they have a Huawei e1752. With the default usb_modeswitch that comes with Mint the modem is not automatically switched and stays on Id 12d1:1446. I can get it to activate using the following:

sudo usb_modeswitch -v 0x12d1 -p 0x1446 -V 0x12d1 -P 0x1003 -M 55534243123456780000000000000011060000000000000000000000000000 -s 10 -Wsu

This changes the Id to 12d1:140c and everything is fine. I would like for this to happen automatically as they are not very computer savvy.

So I upgraded to the latest version from this site (manual install) to see if that would help, now it automatically changes the Id to: 12d1:1436 which however does not get recognized properly and mobile broadband does not show up in networking. What config file do I need to modify so that it changes the Id correctly?

If you have installed the data package with a simple "make install", you have the collection of single config files in /usr/share/usb_modeswitch. Copy the file "12d1:1446" to /etc/usb_modeswitch.d and edit it.
Replace the line "HuaweiNewMode=1" with
Code:

Thanks, will try it as soon as I get hold of the laptop again.
