The situation regarding the new generation of devices is still evolving.

It depends on the manufacturers, but most don't change their mode switching mechanism, so the known commands continue to work.
As before, the main task is to add new product IDs to usb_modeswitch which is easy.

Mind that this is independent of how the driver situation looks like. There is some development going on, but it looks like there is no standard protocol (like ppp). Sometimes, the connection is is triggered by pppd, but the data is arriving on a different port afterwards and looks more like an ethernet stream.

Anyhow, that is out of usb_modeswitch's scope. You might have to pick your information from bites found by <insert-your-favourite-search-engine-here>.
