We're playing Pantech 4G LTE USB Modem UML290. The vid:pid is 106c:3718.
Before switching, this device doesn't look like a storage device. In this case, can usb_modeswitch work?

US dongle sierra313U
The dongle I'm using now is Sierra AirCard 313U. I compiled driver provided by sierra successfully, and got the driver module "sierra.ko" and "sierra_net.ko". For this dongle, according to sierra's article, it support "Direct IP" mode, but we prefer PPP to be compatible...

On Huawei modems, the connection port is usually ttyUSB0. You got that right. I have seen reports where manual interaction with a port failed, but connection still worked when using wvdial or friends. Did you try that?
