Re: Huawei E397 on Ubuntu 16.04

Cbruguera, I have the same modem and am trying to get it to work with Xubuntu 16.10 and GalliumOS 2.0. Check your dmesg. It appears to modeswitch correctly. On my Xubuntu system, usbserial and usbcore recognize the device, attach it with the QMI driver, and give it a tty port under /dev. However, it...

I got the E397u-53. It works with PPP3, but system apps have no network access. Same issue as you, Nightenom.

Logs are in this post:

Need help with Huawei E397u-53 in linux

I apologize beforehand if this is not a usb_modeswitch issue. I would appreciate any help available. If anyone needs logs, let me know. Huawei E397u-53 Project Fi SIM (uses U.S. T-mobile network) Works fine in Windows 10. Android 7.0 - connects, but system apps don't have access to the network. PPP3...

Re: Please help Huawei E397Bu-501 won't switch.

Sinnedone, I have an E397u-53. I had similar issues to you, then took the device to an open window and I got a 4G signal. Took it to my car and have great reception. What service provider are you using? I'm on U.S. T-Mobile. Band 4 doesn't have good building penetration. If you got it to work, can y...

Re: request advice for my usage case

Thanx for the feedback. I've done a lot of research on Huawei modems. For future reference, the E397 and E3276 cover LTE band 4 and HSPA frequencies used by T-Mobile. One of the E3276 models covers band 12 also. Unfortunately, these modems are hard to get in the US because of almost no demand. I set...

Re: request advice for my usage case

Thank you for the prompt replies. Nightenom, I've been following your post. Thanx for the update. Tethering in 7.x is a hassle. I use Tasker to have my phone automatically tether my tablet when I get in the car. In 7.x, the tether toggle plugin doesn't work, so I have to manually enable tethering. A...

request advice for my usage case

My goal - LTE for my car based tablet. I would also use the modem for my linux or Chromebook laptop. - Nvidia Shield K1, Android 7.x. The tablet supports OTG charging and is wired to constant 12V DC. I would use a powered hub to mount a modem, USB DAC, disco ball, etc. - TMobile LTE/3G service (via ...
