Hi Forlong, usb-modeswitch mission is to only switch your device into something useful instead of just a storage class provider. To your case, seems like it has succeed into switching device. You now need to find appropriate driver to handle your switched device, which is your next adventure into ma...

Hi misterstick, indeed is weird that executable is not included in tar file. Josh usually includes such an "emergency" binary. - You may find some "semi-official" executables here: http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/bb/viewtopic.php?t=318 - Or extract them from official de...

Hi Sven, Indeed seems like there is no entry for your modem within latest usb-modeswitch device database. Message 'Found devices in target mode or class (1)' indicates that device has already switched. If it was not you or usb-modeswitch who did the switch, it is possible that device has switched on...

Hi kaijanmaki, I join this conversation as part of the "usb-modeswitch community". I also reached this place because my distribution was unable to make my modem work out-of-the-box. Find my own cents below: Kernel DTRT I am one of those who expect kernel to do the right thing. However, I a...

Josh, it seems that when I unplugg the modem from a USB port, plugg it again in the same and it doesn't work, it will never work again with this USB port until I turn off the computer. This happens for my ZTE MF636 also when using option driver. On my case, there is crash involved. IRQ of that port...

Hi Jpiebrig, solution proposed by Josh, may allow your modem to work if plugged for the second time (those times that you reboot). Maybe, you don't need to reboot and instead use command that Josh told you in previous post. If it works like that, maybe Josh can include a work around for GBC in next ...

Hi Jpiebrig, After disconnecting modem from Ubuntu, try plugging it to another computer (even if that computer is shutdown, as long as it is properly grounded, or have it turned on to make sure) for like 3-5 seconds and then plug it again to Ubuntu. If it is electrical problem, may work like this. S...

Hi again Nikos, actually, I am a guest here just like you. Usb-ModeSwitch author (Josh) is from Germany. First your initial request: "Associate ttyUSB devices with vendor and product IDs" For this solution to work, a working HAL installation is required. Create a shell script with the foll...

Hi Nikos (yes, I am Greek too), What you seek is possible(read note). However, best fit solution depends on system/setup. Before I answer, are you running a fully capable distribution or are you on an embedded, busybox or something, system? NOTE: If you are going to use the exact same modem model, w...

Try this instead (I am not familiar with sudo mechanics):

Code: Select all

sudo bash
printf "nameserver 8.8.8.8\nnameserver 8.8.4.4\n\n" > /etc/resolv.conf

No, you don't need to uninstall network manager for using wvdial. It is just that wvdial has different logic: if user says modem is on ttyUSB2, it is there.

While network manager is more of: If I don't find myself the serial port, then it does not exist.

When it comes into compiling from tarball found in this site, you need to install "libusb-dev" along with build-essential. When it comes to complaining that conflicts with -data, I guess that usb-modeswitch package also provides usb-modeswitch-data. If you choose to use the debian package,...
