I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 because I have some compatibility issues with some old software i must use for research purposes... I'm running it on top of a mac with VMWare Fusion and I have specified that the device is inserted on the virtual machine. I now realized that this version of ubuntu has a kerne...

Re: ZTE MF820 on Ubuntu (Virtual Machine)

Why are you using Ubuntu 8.04? Maybe you should upgrade to a newer version. And which virtual machine? You probably need to specify that the USB device should be used inside the virtual machine, and make sure that no drivers are attached to it at the host machine.

Which modem do you really have?

Hi! The thread title says GT-B3730, but the link http://armageddon421.de/?p=165 is about GT-B3740. If you have GT-B3740, those instructions should probably work, but at least for the GT-B3730, my chatscript: https://github.com/mkotsbak/Samsung-GT-B3730-linux-driver/blob/master/chatscript.txt should ...

You can add the patches I have already submitted manually for your current option.c file: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/733832/ http://www.mail-archive.com/stable@linux.kernel.org/msg09956.html Lines containing "netdev_dbg" can be removed, and use printk for netdev_err/netdev_info. I'...

Thanks for your answer! @this time of the call setup, the APN is not important. I have here the complete setup of the network infrastructure (LTE-eNB->CoreSimulator->LTE-Dongle->Application-server). So at the end i don't like to connect me to any operator, i have my own LTE-Network here. My intensi...

Are you sure that "www.nethawkgroup.com" is the correct APN? Have you tried several times? Which mobile operator are you using?

Hmm, usb_modeswitch stopped working in Ubuntu Natty

After upgrading to Ubuntu natty, it stopped working: Log: USB_ModeSwitch log from Sun Apr 24 11:53:14 CEST 2011 raw args from udev: /1-1.4:1.0 Using global config file: /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf Bus ID for device not given by udev. I know that IDs known to the "option" driver will get it automatically after switching. I think it is safe to assume that the system message "New USB device" indicates that the normal discovery and hotplug process is started. Sure that it is not usb_modeswitch that does the swit...

I am struggeling to get the module loaded automatically, even though the alias line for the gt_b3730 module is correct (the product ID after switching): alias: usb:v04E8p6889d*dc*dsc*dp*ic*isc*ip* and is inside the modules.alias file as well. Is the normal module search not done after the switching ...

Hmm ok. It might be that your network operator requires another set of AT commands/parameters. Are you able to sniff what the windows driver sends (either using an windows based sniffer or wireshark with windows running in vmware)? Does the LED on the modem change to dark blue? Or green? If it is gr...

As I said, you need to do it in the right order. We have the dependencies:

* Init requires modem newly inserted
* AT command sending requires init and no previous AT commands sent since modem insertion
* ifup ethernet device / DHCP requires the AT commands previously sent

"+CSQ: 15,0" is good signal. What you say is expected if the initialization has not taken place, (i.e. you have not seen the "Received init result: 28" after modem insertion). Please follow the README exactly (until we have a script/modemmanager support). You should have the late...
