Problem switching Huawei E1550 connected to USB HUB

Post by v.fedyay » Mon Apr 14, 2014 6:23 pm

I have a problem with switching mode when Huawei E1550 (12d1:1446) dongle is connected through USB HUB. If I connect it directly everything is fine.
You can see attached usb_modeswitch log for both cases.

I've found this topic and think it is the same problem because he has USB HUB and maybe modem connected through it:
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 1a40:0101 Terminus Technology Inc. 4-Port HUB

Here is my lsusb output:

*** when switching failed
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9512 Standard Microsystems Corp. LAN9500 Ethernet 10/100 Adapter
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 1a40:0201 Terminus Technology Inc. FE 2.1 7-port Hub
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 046d:c31c Logitech, Inc. Keyboard K120 for Business
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188CUS 802.11n WLAN Adapter
Bus 001 Device 010: ID 12d1:1446 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E1552/E1800/E173 (HSPA modem)

*** when switching successful
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9512 Standard Microsystems Corp. LAN9500 Ethernet 10/100 Adapter
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 12d1:140c Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 1a40:0201 Terminus Technology Inc. FE 2.1 7-port Hub
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 046d:c31c Logitech, Inc. Keyboard K120 for Business
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188CUS 802.11n WLAN Adapter

For my opinion it is a problem with naming devices by udev when it is connected through the HUB.

This is for sure the dreadful Raspberry pi dwc_otg usb controller driver bug which has been discussed in other forum threads and in the raspberry pi forums.
You'll have to find out by yourself which linux release for raspberry has the bug fixed drivers.
