Post by sergiogelli » 24 Dec 2014, 12:57

I have a modem D-Link DWM-221, and is not working.
Could you please say whether this modem is supported?

Thanks in advance

Please. I really need help. The lost time with this problem is being too large.

Searching the internet, I found these possible solutions:
linux-kplg:/home/sergio # /usr/sbin/usb_modeswitch -v 2001 -p a401 -d 1
Looking for default devices ...
found matching product ID
adding device
Found device in default mode, class or configuration (1)
Accessing device 005 on bus 001 ...
Getting the current device configuration ...
OK, got current device configuration (1)
Using interface number 0
Using endpoints 0x01 (out) and 0x81 (in)
Inquiring device details; driver will be detached ...
Looking for active driver ...
No driver found. Either detached before or never attached

-> Run lsusb to note any changes. Bye.
That's the lsusb result:

linux-kplg:/home/sergio # lsusb

No conection!
We will have a next step?

Only for information

But I uses OpenSuse 13,1 with KDE and the modem still not working

Follow, results of your requests:
1- /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf -- Now is changed
2- Modem is plugged again
3- this file "usb_modeswitch.log" does not exists in anywhere from my PC
4 -------------------------------------
The part of dmesg output:

Your dongle with initial id 2001:a401 did switch here:
[ 2045.519898] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=2001, idProduct=7e19
[ 2045.519908] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
Make it switch and show me the output from lsusb -v -d 2001:7e19

I use the numbers a401 and 7e19
The Results is the same error.

I abandoned this brand of modem and now I am testing an Huawey E3276, but don't work too.

Thanks for the help

Unfortunately I do not have this modem D-Link, so I can not send you the requested information.
I returned this modem to the seller, because I have not found anything that made it work, even though I have sought instructions for more than 15 days.

Thanks.

Never mind, I think I already know how to switch it but would also like to see what kind of modem/network adapter it became after switching.
There will come other users with this dongle so we will eventually suss it all out.

Follows the result of the command "lsusb"
linux-a49v:/home/sergio # lsusb -v -d 2001:7e19
linux-a49v:/home/sergio #
The product number appeared as "a401" in some instances
So also follows the command "lsusb" with that number.
linux-a49v:/home/sergio # lsusb -v -d 2001:a401
linux-a49v:/home/sergio #
As said before, these results were made without the connected modem.
If you want more information, just ask.

Thanks but we will have to wait for someone who has the modem, lsusb will only display info for devices which are present on the usb port.
