Hello,
Not sure how I'm supposed to report these findings, but I just bought a D-Link DWM-156 in Myanmar, and got it to work like this:
before switching:
Code: Select all
$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 028: ID 2001:a40a D-Link Corp.
I copied the following in /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/2001:a40a:
Code: Select all
D-Link DWM-156 HSUPA 3.75G USB Modem
TargetVendor=0x2001
TargetProduct=0x7d10
MessageContent="555342431234567800000000000003f0010100000000000000000000000000"
then ran
Code: Select all
$ sudo usb_modeswitch -v 0x2001 -p 0xa40a -c /etc/usb_modeswitch.d/2001\:a40a
and got the modem device. I have connected successfully to the local 3G network, so I'm assuming this works, but happy to provide more info if needed.

Thanks for the report, the device will be included in a pending update of usb_modeswitch data package.
Which DWM-156 version is this? C1?
You can find it printed on a label inside after removing the cover.
I would also very much appreciate if you could give us a verbose lsusb listing of its two device id's, ie lsusb -vd 2001:a40a and lsusb -vd 2001:7d10

The label says hardware version A8, and firmware version 8.0.0VWV if it's of any help.
Then for the lsusb output, for the storage device
Code: Select all
$ sudo lsusb -vd 2001:a40a

Hi,
I have the same device. May I ask if yours provide a serial port after switching? Apologies if this is the wrong thread
Code: Select all
$ sudo usb_modeswitch -v 0x2001 -p 0x7d10 -R
Look for default devices ...
product ID matched
Found devices in default mode (1)
Access device 010 on bus 002
Get the current device configuration ...
Current configuration number is 1
Use interface number 0
USB description data (for identification)
-------------------------
Manufacturer: D-Link,Inc
Product: D-Link DWM-156
Serial No.: not provided
-------------------------
Warning: no switching method given. See documentation
Reset USB device .
Device was reset
-> Run lsusb to note any changes. Bye!
$ dmesg
[ 260.250533] cdc_mbim 2-1.1.4:1.0 wwp0s20u1u1u4: unregister 'cdc_mbim' usb-0000:00:14.0-1.1.4, CDC MBIM

[ 610.023392] cdc_mbim 2-1.1.4:1.0: Cannot schedule work
There's no serial port assigned. It's not showing up on my
nor /dev/gsmmodem. Is it showing up on yours?

ttyUSB devices are created when a serial driver binds to the dongles serial interfaces.
The USB id 2001:7d10 has not yet been added to the linux serial driver option and that is the reason why you don't have any ttyUSB devices.
You can add on-the-fly support with the cmd
echo "2001 7d10" > /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id
but that will probably cause conflict with the cdc_mbim driver, better to only use the dongle with cdc_mbim.

Holy. Thanks. I didn't have option1 so I used pl2303 which I use for my other modems.
So far it's working as intended aside from its USSD. I'll have to look for other dongles.
Thank you again
