huwaei modem not working with ubuntu 14.04

Post by sidak » 28 Jun 2014, 13:45

i am configuring the setup of my tata photon(huwaei e156 ) on ubuntu 14.04

when i run the lsusb command : it says

Bus 003 Device 016: ID 12d1:1505 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E398 LTE/UMTS/GSM Modem/Networkcard

Now i was finding the solution , i found this topic
http://askubuntu.com/questions/78164/co ... awei-ec156

i followed the exact steps and now when i run : sudo wvdial

it says:
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.61
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB1: No such file or directory
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB1: No such file or directory
--> Cannot open /dev/ttyUSB1: No such file or directory

Please help me to solve this problem or suggest some other alternative of installing it on my ubuntu 14.04

12d1:1505 is a usb id which has been supported by usb_modeswitch since more than 3 years back and there are no known problems with it.

Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) is the first Ubuntu release since 12.04 which comes bundled with one of the latest version of usb_modeswitch (2.1.1) and usb_modeswitch data package (20140327) so your dongle should work directly.
The AskUbuntu page you linked to is full of errors so whatever of it you have done should be reverted.

You can not download the usb_modeswitch program and data package from here - Ubuntu has their own way of implementing usb_modeswitch which makes the original usb_modeswitch incompatible with Ubuntu.
You have to download it from Ubuntu Software Center or by using the install buttons on the following two web pages:

http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/co ... modeswitch

http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/co ... witch-data

If it still doesn't work after you have reinstalled these two packages then include an archive of your dmesg as a file attachment in your next post.
