No Carrier

Hi,

on Raspberry sometimes "No Carrier" occurs and then wvdial doesn't stop trying to find a carrier.

I wrote a script that tries to call wvdial twenty times and then a reboot will be made.
But the problem now is that wvdial tries infinitely to get a carrier.

I couldn't find a parameter that when "No Carrier" occurs wvdial closes after some tries. :-(

Are you using a powered hub to drive the modem?

It's a known issue that the Raspberry is short on power on its USB sockets, and wireless modems are real power hogs.

Yes, I use a powered USB hub because when I connect it diretly sometime when I plug it of the Rasberry reboots.

Moreover I has a TP-Link 725 wireless dongle on my Raspberry. I think both devices need too much power - so I took an powered USB hub.

How could I solve this problem?

Sometime (all few days) it happens that the 3G modem has no carrier and I must unplug the stick. :-(

A normal reboot of the Raspberry doesn't help. :-(

But on other Raspberry I connected the 3G stick directly and there I got the same error after some days. :-(

The first Raspberry is a B+ and the second one a Pi 2.

I have seen the problem also if the APN setting was not correct.

If you want, post your wvdial.conf so we can have a look.
