Could not determine local IP address

Post by diogom » 29 Sep 2012, 04:26

I'm in Brazil, using a Nexus 7, Jelly Bean, and Huawei E303. Everything look great, but I'm getting the COULD NO DETERMINE THE LOCAL IP ADDRESS.

I did a lot of research befor send you this message ( xda, google, your forum). I've tried to NOIPDEFAULT (in gprs file). But did not work.

Do you have any guess about that ? Please find below the log file.

Regards,
Diogo

Can you double-check your APN? What is your provider?

This error points to an incorrect setting.

Josh,
Yes, I'm pretty sure about the APN settings.

zap.vivo.com.br

It's the same I use in my android mobile phone.
Do you have any other guess ?

Not really.

Is the device probably locked to a different provider or plan, not fitting the SIM card?

Everything else seems to work, there is a response on the other side.

Try to find a system (Windows or Linux) where the connection with the device succeeds.

Then get a log of the dial process to see if there are any special initializations done apart from setting the APN.

Josh, i used to get this error with Huawei. This was first thing that make me think the tool is saving the network settings somewhere and cannot change it when using another modem, this was before i find it is related to using more than a modem.
You later corrected this, to be related to the used ports.

I think this issue will be fixed in v1.1 as you said, but for now, if diogom can do one of the following methods it will prove/decline the idea.

Method 1:
1- Unplug the modem
2- remove the widget from desktop.
3- Add the widget to desktop
4- Enter necessary apn settings.
5- "Touch icon" and use "None"
6- Plug the modem.
7- "Touch Icon" and choose your modem.
I hope it will connect now successfully.

Method2:
1- Uninstall PPP widget from "Settings" > "App"
2- Re-install PPP.
3- Enter the APN settings
4- Plug the modem.
5- Connect.

Hope it works :)

Mohamed.

Ah, thanks for the hint.

The "wrong port" problem should really go away with version 1.1.

Only few hours to go now ...

Thak you all for the hints, I tried both, but neither work.
And now I'm using version 1.1.

Do you still get the log saying "Could not determine local IP address" ?

The strange thing is that you do get an address ...

rcvd [IPCP ConfNak id=0x5 <addr 177.170.30.43> <ms-dns1 200.142.132.32> <ms-dns3 200.220.227.57>]

I'll look around if there is a parameter for the pppd option file ("<sdcard>/pppwidget/ppp/gprs") that can help.

I found something that seems to have been changed in a newer version of the pppd program ...

Add these lines to the file "<sdcard>/pppwidget/ppp/gprs":

ipcp-max-configure 50
ipcp-max-failure 50
ipcp-max-terminate 10
