This is a hint:

"OS Android, v4.1 (Jelly Bean)"

I don't know what kind of device this is, but it's not the new Nexus 7 - which comes with Android 4.3.

Hi there
This is my first post here. Josh can you tell me something about my device running ppp.

Rooted Nexus 7 2013 wi-fi 16g,
Android 4.3,
built JSS15R
Kernel version (stock ROM):
3.4.0 - g9e52a21
android-build@vpbs1.mtv.corp.google.com #1
thu-aug 29 14:31:22 pdt 2013

Tried 2 usb dongles : zte mf190 and huawei k3772 - for both i got :"no driver found'. Usb log attached (for zte). I got no feedback using ppp from previous versions of android (if its working or not) but there are people saying that some of N7 2013 devices (official rom) are working even with 4.3. How can i find if my device has drivers enabled in kernel or not (and where?). I don't want custom rom, is there a solution ?

Thanks

PPP Widget checks if the modem drivers are active at the moment (they may also have been built into the kernel).

If this condition is not met, you would have to load them as modules. There is no other way.

Since you can't do this on the new Nexus 7 ROM, you are busted. I have not received any report where PPP Widget worked on this tablet with the stock ROM. If you have, kindly point me to it.

I updated N10 to 4.4 kit kat...

Driver not found issue.
Anyone knows If the kernel has module loading disabled too?

3.4.39-g79b81c6

I am confident that I have the correct kernel configuration; unfortunately I discovered that module loading was entirely disabled in that kernel !!

If this is true for the kernel that is actually on the device, then any further extension of that kernel - by adding modules for new features and device support - is impossible.

Can anyone check if there are any modules on the Nexus 10 with Android 4.3 ?

I just had a look on my Nexus 7 and could not find any. However, the difference to the Nexus 10 is that the modem drivers are compiled into the kernel.

If all that turns out to be reality, then there is no way of using 3G USB sticks or phones on the Nexus 10 with the stock kernel of 4.3 !!
Possibly good news is that I tried an older version of PPP Widget 1.2.9.. on my Ainol Crystal running on CM 10.2, Android 4.3..... and no issues with Driver .. got connected too.... but bad news is that the network was not registered.. i mean browser and play store kept searching for wi-fi... Any help here?

But i have a problem with ver 1.3.3 "Driver not found" in all versions of Android even in JellyBean 4.1

Previous versions of PPP Widget do not seem to cause any trouble with my modem. I also tried Mock Wifi "Use wifi to show ppp connection" - but in vain.

Is there something missing in ver 1.3.3 that seems to be causing this issue? can you please help me sort out this issue?
I am providing some relevant information here. :

My modem is Micromax 300C , CDMA Qualcom chipset

In that case, I'd like to see the "USB log" for both PPP Widget versions, 1.3.3 and the one that works.

Good news, a kernel replacement makes it work.

Just thought I'd say that stock 4.4.2 with the ElementalX kernel is working with PPP Widget, I'm using Huwae 368 on AT&T.

VPN not working :( tried PPTP and OpenVPN, they work over Wifi but not with PPP Widget
