The FAQ is a bit dated there. Magisk works fine, and it just ignores the special parameters that are necessary for SuperSU.
I need to see the PPP log of PPP Widget, both when the connection worked and when it does not.
If you have not done it yet, enable the "Logging" option in the configuration.
