Download and install the complete usbmodeswitch package as a start, your K3772 is in install mode and has not switched to modem mode.
Lite = stripped from functions so I assume that they did not include usbmodeswitch in it.
There may also be 3G modem drivers missing in Lite but that is a later problem.

Do you also have the "tcl" package installed?

If there is "udev" active on this system and is managing devices, you should not have to do any more.

To see if something happens, enable usb_modeswitch's logging as described on the main doc page, paragraph "Troubleshooting". Then insert your 3G stick again.

I have looked at enabling logging in what you have said but nothing seems to happen and when i look for that file in /var/log/ and I look for usb_modeswitch_<device> it isnt there but i do see udev there as a file though.

and I know this is a stupid question but how do i know if udev is active on the system?

Also when i unplug and plug in the device it comes up with 2 windows from the device.

Nothing is displayed in the Wicd Network Manager except the wireless and the wired connection but with no mention of the usb device.

If you have a folder "/lib/udev/rules.d" and there is more than one file in it, chances are that udev is the device manager on this system.

See if your "syslog" is mentioning usb_modeswitch in any way. It should be in /var/log as well.
If not, look for a file named "messages" there.

http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/#install

If you have udev and have installed usb_modeswitch the correct way then a device detection on the usb bus will trigger usb_modeswitch and switch your dongle into modem mode.

Sorry, I can't give you any more help, I don't know what has been stripped off your Lite distro but that is something you should have researched and know before deciding to install something that is not a full Linux build.
The distro builder and/or the distro's support forum is probably where you should ask your questions.

Ok thank you and do you know which linux distro would be the most help or would support the above modem on its system?

bettergenius,

I think most of the mainstream distributions have usb_modeswitch on-board (and integrated) nowadays.

If you are looking for a small-footprint distro, I know that Puppy Linux has it integrated smoothly.
