Method
1. plug the device into the usb port
2. mount it (i used dolphin from kde)
3. issue the command
touch /media/CONNMGR/wcdma.cfg
4. wait a few seconds, then issue the command (as root)
pppd call the-name-of-your-pppd-connection-script

Note: some people prefer to use wvdial for step 4 ...
